victory day

On Thursday we sat in the oncologists office. He's a man that does not hesitate to tell you the cold hard facts. Like in this post. This visit was a little different to the ones we have had before. In this one Dr S encouraged my mother.

He looked at her and told her that the cancer is under control now. That she is a well woman living with cancer. Cancer does not define her anymore. He cautioned us that one day the cancer will grow but I chose to believe that my mother is being healed. Miracle, chemo or natural supplements, who cares. She is back.

We did our usual thing and went for coffee afterwards. We sat in giddy silence in the cafe for a while. We are not used to good news any more. It felt like a river refreshing a desert. My Mom slowly began to talk about what she would like to do in the future. She starting dreaming and I just sat and let her talk.

I love the relationship I have with my mother. She is an incredible, courageous woman. And I really love this photo. The grin on her face shows the victory she felt this week. Love it.
